Rules Concerning the Selection of Honorary Members of
the Japanese Society of Plant Physiologists


Established March 28, 2002


1. These rules govern the selection of honorary members as stipulated in the Constitution and By-Laws of the Japanese Society of Plant Physiologists (JSPP).

2. The president, through discussion with the Executive Council, may recommend candidates for honorary membership. The candidate's consent must be obtained for their such a recommendation. The honorary membership candidate recommended by the president need not be a JSPP member. The candidate's age has no bearing on these proceedings.

3. Recipients of the JSPP Outstanding Contribution Award automatically become candidates for honorary membership if they are 65 years of age or older as of January 1 in the year in which the award was conferred. If they were not yet 65 years of age as of January 1 in the year in which the award was conferred, they will become candidates for honorary membership in the year they turn 65 year of age.

4. Honorary members will be selected by the decision of the JSPP Council, as stipulated in Article IV of the Constitution. Decisions of the Council are made by anonymous voting.

Addendum 1: The number of honorary members to be recommended by the president is limited to one in four years. The total number of honorary members should be kept to less than 1% of the total number of regular members.

Addendum 2: These rules will become effective as of the 2004 fiscal year.
