Rules Concerning the Japanese Society of Plant Physiologists Outstanding Contribution Award

Established March 28, 2002

1.The Japanese Society of Plant Physiologists (JSPP) confers the Japanese Society of Plant Physiologists Outstanding Contribution Award upon JSPP regular members or honorary members who have made significant contributions to advancing the field of plant science and to the development of the JSPP.

2.The Award recipients must hold the JSPP membership for the past 25 or more years including the year in which the award is conferred.

3.Recipients of the Outstanding Contribution Award will be selected by an Outstanding Contribution Awards Committee which is to be established every two years. The Awards Committee will consist of six members appointed by the JSPP president. The members' term of appointment will be one year, and the committee chairperson will be selected by the committee members.

4.The Awards Committee will ask the former presidents and current Executive Councilors to recommend candidates for the Outstanding Contribution Award. The Awards Committee will nominate an award candidate(s) from among those who are recommended, and will report its nomination(s) to the president by the end of October of that fiscal year. Only one candidate may be nominated by the Awards Committee. However, for the ten years following the time these rules go into effect, up to two award candidates may be nominated. In some years, there may not be any nominations for the Outstanding Contribution Award.

5.The president will notify the councilors of the nomination results in writing, and if a candidate(s) has been nominated by the Awards Committee, the councilors will vote on whether to confer the award upon the nominee(s). Any councilor who is being considered as a nominee for an award is not eligible to vote. The president will announce the award recipient(s), as determined by the results of this vote, by mid-December. The nominee(s) must receive a majority of votes of the voting councilors in order to be granted the Outstanding Contribution Award.

6.The president will present the recipient(s) with an award certificate and commemorative gift at the award ceremony. Award recipients residing in Japan will be invited to give a special presentation at the JSPP Annual Meeting. Regular members who receive the Outstanding Contribution Award will become candidates for honorary membership.

Addendum:These rules will become effective as of the 2004 fiscal year.
