Selection Criteria for the Japanese Society of Plant Physiologists' Young Overseas Joint Research Fellowship

Article 1

The Japanese Society of Plant Physiologists has established a Young Overseas Joint Research Fellowship (the JSPP Fellowship) with the fund donated by Dr. Nam-Hai Chua (the Nam-Hai Chua Fund).

Article 2

The Young Overseas Joint Research Fellowship (the JSPP Fellowship) shall be implemented in the following format:

  1. It shall support joint research undertaken by younger plant physiologist members of the Japanese Society of Plant Physiologists in facilities overseas.
  2. It shall target doctoral candidates, doctorate researchers, young faculty and researchers.
  3. It shall assist with travel and living expenses for joint research undertaken within a three month period.
  4. Two recipients shall be named each year, receiving a maximum of ¥1 million each.

Article 3

Fellowship selection shall be the responsibility of the JSPP Award Committee. Applicants shall prepare an application, including a detailed plan of the joint research, (copies of) any documentation indicating negotiation with overseas researchers, etc., and shall submit it to the JSPP Office.

Article 4

The JSPP Award Committee shall report their selections to the President. The President shall then notify the Executive Councilors of the selections, and upon receipt of their approval, the applicants shall be asked to provide a grant application in line with their detailed plan for their joint research. Once the final amount of the fellowship grant is determined thereby, that amount shall be notified to the Executive Council.

Fellowship recipients shall be presented with both the grant monies and a certificate indicating their status as a recipient of the Young Overseas Joint Research Fellowship (the JSPP Fellowship). Certificates shall be presented at the annual meeting subsequent to the conclusion of the joint research.

Article 5

Fellowship recipients must implement and complete the selected project within one year of said selection. Fellowship recipients shall submit an implementation report to the President within two months of the joint research's completion, and must indicate their receipt of this fellowship whenever presenting papers related to said research.

Article 6

Fellowship monies shall be provided from the Nam-Hai Chua Fund, and shall be accounted for separately from the general ledger.

Additional Provisions

These specifications shall be effective from FY2006.
