Applications for the 2011 JSPP Young Investigator Award
Nominations Are Now Open for the 2011 JSPP Young Investigator Award

The Young Investigator Award will be awarded to no more than two candidates (self-nominated or nominated by a JSPP member) selected by the JSPP Awards Committee and approved by JSPP Council. Members both inside and outside of Japan who fulfill the eligibility requirements for the Young Investigator Award may apply for the award by following the instructions below.


Application Requirements

1. Candidate Eligibility

(1) Persons who have conducted outstanding research that contributes to the advancement of plant science and who show promise in the field.
(2) JSPP members under the age of 40 as of April 1, 2011.
(3) Persons who have presented the majority of the research they are submitting for the award at the JSPP Annual Meeting and Symposia, or whose work has been published in PCP.

2. Application Instructions

a. Self-nomination
Submit 12 copies of the documents listed below to the JSPP Young Investigator Award Section, Shimotachiuri, Ogawa-Higashi, Kamigyo-ku, Kyoto 602-8048, Japan (Applications must be received by Tuesday, October 5, 2010) Applicants may request to have their application materials returned to them. Materials should be submitted on A4-size paper with margins of 2 cm or more.


1) Cover page: This page should be entitled "JSPP Young Investigator Award Application Form" and should contain the following: the date of submission, research topic, applicant's name (also in English, if applicable), birth date, age, affiliation and professional title, address, and contact information (tel, fax, email), highest level of education completed and degrees earned, and past work experience.
2) Key research findings: Explain the content of the research you are submitting for the award, clearly identifying which papers your findings were published in, in no more than two pages (2,000 characters/600 words or less, including title)
3) List of publications: (i) Original papers (following PCP standards for citations), (ii) review articles or other materials (following PCP standards for citations), (iii) presentations at the JSPP annual meeting and symposium related to the research being submitted. Number the items in the order of publication date and underline the applicant's name.
4) Copies of major papers (5 or fewer).

b. Nomination by a JSPP Member
JSPP members may nominate candidates for the Young Investigator Award. To nominate a candidate, submit a letter of recommendation to the JSPP headquarters by Wednesday, September 15, 2010. Based on the letter of recommendation, the JSPP will advise the nominated individual to apply for the award. The letter of recommendation should include (i) the nominee's name (also in English, if applicable), title, and contact information, (ii) the name, title, and contact information of the person making the nomination, (iii) a brief explanation of the reason for the nomination, and (iv) the date of the nomination.
