Having entered the 21st century, the Japanese Society of Plant Physiologists founded 42 years ago continues efforts to intensify multidisciplinary studies on a global basis, a consistent aim of the Society. The heroic feat of the Arabidopsis genome project last year has brought a new era in plant science development. The public concern of the studies in this field is high, and further developments in plant science are awaited. I believe that plants will be playing a more important role in solving environmental and food issues in this new century. The journal Plant and Cell Physiology (PCP) published by our society has recently been announced to have an impact factor higher than the long-desired value of 2, due to the unflagging efforts of the readers and editorial staff. To spread the latest information in our journal more rapidly, we have started an on-line service in cooperation with the Oxford University Press. A firm foundation for PCP to contribute to the developments in plant science is being formed. Our society is making efforts to meet the social demand to promote the future developments in plant science, in addition to the exchange of research information among the members. One of the activities is to enrich our home page to send out domestic and international information on plant science and the activities of our society to the public. We look forward to access by all of those interested in plant science. |
